My Tohughts

I read Size Matters as buddy read with my friend Debby from AlwaysBooking. We wanted to read this one slowly, since both of us had busy weeks. But once we started, we read more than we planned to in a shorter amount of time.

I think that was because the book was easy to read. The light language made for a quick and enjoyable read. I loved how to the characters were interacting on a casual level. Since this is a romance book, two people meet and fall in love in an everyday-life scenery, I found this very refreshing since the books I read currently are all fantasy-ish and it was a nice change in scenery.

I enjoyed all characters, especially the two love birds Sam and Leah. They’re strong and independent characters, though they do have their flaws. Samis determined to try to forget women exist and Leah is very self-conscious about her body. Somehow, these two mess around with the other’s head and a bunch of other people. But they pull through, together.

The family ties in this novel are very tight on the one hand, on the other, relationships are a bit awkward at best and abusive at worst. Especially Leah is faced with this and I really felt for her when he had to deal with all the bad things that came rushing her way. He own fears usually don’t make situations any better, but she tries hard. And i admire her for that. I loved a lot of people in her family and how they stuck together. But they also didn’t top certain people from harassing Leah so I kind of hate them too. Classic love-hate relationship here.

I though it was a shame that the book wasn’t a bit longer. At te last third, I felt scenes were rushed and suddenly there was insta-love. Something I really don’t appreciate. I thought there could have been a little more interaction between characters before that. It would have made for a smoother transition. Because of that, I also couldn’t appreciate the end fully. Also, I thought the characters were a little flat sometimes.

But the book had me laughing a lot, which doesn’t happen too often. The jokes and language felt natural and realistic, just as the characters did. I enjoyed reading Size Matters a lot. If you want a fun and enjoyable read that you’ll devour within a few days and don’t mind insta- love, I can really recommend this one!
